Do Not Perform Any Auspicious Tasks During Holashtak

Some distinctive Muhurtas are set for auspicious acts, just as they are in every religion and as per astrology. Similarly, several bad times for any auspicious job have been mentioned, during which it is deemed prohibited to undertake any auspicious work. This is an unlucky moment to undertake an auspicious job because the outcome would be exceedingly unlucky for the person. In this case, Holashtak is also one of the times when these auspicious works are restricted. This begins exactly eight days before Holika Dahan. For example, the 8-day period preceding Holika Dahan is known as Holashtak, and according to astrologers, no auspicious deed is performed during this time. But in spite of this, this period proves to be very useful for the worship of God and the favored deities.

Keep These Things In Mind During Holashtak

During the 8 days of Holashtak, King Hiranyakashipu, along with his sister Holika, tormented his son and Lord Vishnu’s devotee Prahlad, according to Hindu traditions. For this reason, King Hiranyakashipu and his sister Holika plotted to kill Prahlad by burning him in the fire on the last day of the festival, in which Holika herself perished. As a result, no auspicious work should be done during these eight days, and instead, a person should focus solely on God’s worship. During the Holashtak period, it is especially important to avoid the following activities:-

  • During Holashtak, one should refrain from conducting 16 Hindu ceremonies, such as marriage, shaving, and griha pravesh, among others.
  • Buying houses, autos, jewellery, clothing, and furniture, among other things, should be avoided during this time.
  • Starting a new investment, job, or business at this time is also considered unlucky.
  • Any newlywed woman should also avoid going to her in-laws’ residence for the first Holi.
  • During Holashtak, avoid filing any legal cases.
  • If a family member passes away during these eight days, the co-family should execute a particular ceremony for their soul’s peace.
  • During this time, you should only worship your ancestors and deities.
