As Lord Shiva is the eternal god, once Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu came to Shiva to establish their supremacy over each other as Brahma was the creator and Vishnu was the operator.

To end the debate and argument between Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu, Mahadev pierced the three worlds in the form of an endless pillar of light as Jyotirling. That’s how the first Jyotirlinga appeared. Its start and end was not known.
