According to the Hindu calendar, Sita Navami is celebrated on the ninth day of Shukla Prasad of Vaisakh month. This time, Sita Navami 2024 is falling on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Navami Tithi will start on May 16, 2024, at 06:24 am and will last till May 17, 2024 at 08:50 am. An auspicious yoga is also formed on the same day which is explained further.

On the day of Sita Navami 2024, Dhruv Yoga is also going to be formed. On the morning of 16th May 2024, at 08:22 AM, it will begin and last till the next day morning, 17th May 2024 at 09:19 AM.

Significance Of Sita Navami 

According to religious texts, Sita Navami is the day when Sita was incarnated on Earth in Pushya Nakshatra. In many parts of the country, this day is also known as Janaki Navami. Also, in some places, it is celebrated on Phalgun Krishna Ashtami. However, in Ramayana, both of the birthdates of Mata Sita are considered correct. Worship Rituals For Sita Navami 

On this day, we worship Lord Rama along with Mata Sita. In several parts of the country, people observe fast on this day. The preparation for this auspicious day begins a day earlier, meaning on Ashtami. 

• Wake up early on Ashtami and clean your entire house. 
• Now, clean the Pooja place in your house and sprinkle Gangajal there. 
• After this, decorate a small mandap at Pooja place or in some clean place of the house. Then, place the idol of Lord Rama and Mata Sita there. 
• The next day, on Navami Tithi, wake up early in the morning and after taking a bath, place a Kalash in front of the idol and take a pledge to fast. 
• Now, worship Shri Rama and Mata Sita together and offer fruits, as well as Prasad to them. 
• The next day, on Dashami Tithi, immerse the Mandap according to rituals. 
• On the day of Sita Navami 2024, chanting the mantras ‘Shri Sitaayi Namah’ and ‘Shri Sita Ramay Namah’ gives auspicious results.

Story Behind Sita Navami 

It didn’t rain for long in Mithila and due to this concern, the entire public as well as the King of Mithila got stressed and worried. When King Janak asked the sages for a solution to this problem. They said that if the King himself plows the field, then Lord Indra may be pleased and shower rain on his kingdom. 

On the advice of the sages, King Janak started plowing and while doing so, his plow collided with an urn(Kalash.) There was a newborn girl in that Kalash. As King Janak was childless himself, he accepted her as his daughter. Later, he named her Sita, and being the daughter of Janak, Mata Sita is also known as Janaki. King Janak met Mata Sita on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishak month, hence this day is celebrated as Sita Navami.

Sita Navami is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Ayodhya, which is located in Uttar Pradesh, India. Apart from this, it also holds great significance in Bhadrachalam in Andhra Pradesh, Sita Samahit Sthal in Bihar, and Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu.

Rules To Keep A Fast On Sita Navami 2024 

On the auspicious day of Sita Navami, the married women take a bath before sunrise and chant the below mentioned Mantra; 

“Ganga Cha Yamuna Godavari Saraswati Narmada Sindhu Kaveri Jalesmin Sannidhim Kuru.”

This fast begins right from sunrise and the women should only intake water throughout the day. And, the next day, the fast is broken only after drinking water. If a woman is unable to observe this fast, then they can eat dry fruits and have milk. 

Worship Lord Rama and Mata Sita with sandalwood, flowers, fruits, and incense as well as offer prasad to them. 

You can also do Ram Pooja Jaap, Yagya, and Pooja on this day. Ram Poojja includes Ram Raksha Stotra, Ram Mantra, Ram Hom, and Aarti.
