Worship Rituals For Sita Navami 

On this day, we worship Lord Rama along with Mata Sita. In several parts of the country, people observe fast on this day. The preparation for this auspicious day begins a day earlier, meaning on Ashtami. 

  • Wake up early on Ashtami and clean your entire house. 
  • Now, clean the Pooja place in your house and sprinkle Gangajal there. 
  • After this, decorate a small mandap at Pooja place or in some clean place of the house. Then, place the idol of Lord Rama and Mata Sita there. 
  • The next day, on Navami Tithi, wake up early in the morning and after taking a bath, place a Kalash in front of the idol and take a pledge to fast. 
  • Now, worship Shri Rama and Mata Sita together and offer fruits, as well as Prasad to them. 
  • The next day, on Dashami Tithi, immerse the Mandap according to rituals.

Story Behind Sita Navami 

It didn’t rain for long in Mithila and due to this concern, the entire public as well as the King of Mithila got stressed and worried. When King Janak asked the sages for a solution to this problem. They said that if the King himself plows the field, then Lord Indra may be pleased and shower rain on his kingdom. 

On the advice of the sages, King Janak started plowing and while doing so, his plow collided with an urn(Kalash.) There was a newborn girl in that Kalash. As King Janak was childless himself, he accepted her as his daughter. Later, he named her Sita, and being the daughter of Janak, Mata Sita is also known as Janaki. King Janak met Mata Sita on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishak month, hence this day is celebrated as Sita Navami.

On the auspicious day of Sita Navami, the married women take a bath before sunrise and chant the below mentioned Mantra; 

“Ganga Cha Yamuna Godavari Saraswati Narmada Sindhu Kaveri Jalesmin Sannidhim Kuru.”

This fast begins right from sunrise and the women should only intake water throughout the day. And, the next day, the fast is broken only after drinking water. If a woman is unable to observe this fast, then they can eat dry fruits and have milk. 

Worship Lord Rama and Mata Sita with sandalwood, flowers, fruits, and incense as well as offer prasad to them.
