Sharad Navratri will start from 15th October as the first date or Pratipada Tithi. The worship begins with cleaning the home and especially the worship place and sanitizing it. After that an idol of Maa Durga is placed and Shodoshapachar Puja is performed. 

But before the beginning of Puja, Ghatsthaapna is performed that holds an eminent importance. A kalash is taken that signifies Lord Ganesha. A green coconut is taken and put above the mouth of the kalash and is wrapped with a red cloth and tied with a Mouli (sacred thread, Water, and silver, gold , or a normal one rupee coin is put under the kalash).
