The description of the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi can be found in the Shastras, and out of all the fasts, this one is considered to be the most fruitful. According to religious beliefs, one who observes the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi attains benefits of those equal to giving donations to a Brahmin, meditating for crores of years, and Kanyadaan. By observing this fast one also attains the blessings of Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna, and Goddess Lakshmi and the devotees receive prosperity and peace in their lives.
Varuthini Ekadashi 2023: Worship Methods
The person who is observing the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi should restrain themselves from amative activities. The person should abstain from talking ill about others and should also stay away from any kind of immoral work. The worship methods of this fast is below-mentioned:
- In order to observe the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi, the person should not eat onion, garlic, and rice from the Dashmi Tithi itself.
- On the day of Ekadashi, get up early in the morning and take a bath, after wearing clean clothes, make a vow to observe the fast. After this, purify your worship place with holy Ganga water.
- After this bathe the idol of Lord Vishnu and put clean clothes on it and then install the idol in your worship place.
- Then worship Lord Vishnu with complete and proper ritual methods, using Akshat, Deepak and other 16 ingredients.
- Make sure you offer Lord Vishnu, flowers, fruits, and Tulsi. It is believed that Lord Vishnu adores Tulsi (Holy basil) and in every fast of Ekadashi Tulsi must be always offered.
- On this day, the devotee must offer Lord Vishnu Kheer or Melon.
- While doing the worship of Lord Vishnu on this day, one must recite his Mantras. It is said that by reciting this Mantra one gets rid of all kinds of problems; ‘om~ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya namaḥ’।
- During the night the devotee must worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.
- After taking a bath the next day, worship Lord Vishnu and if possible offer food to a Brahmin and then break this fast at the given time.

Varuthini Ekadashi 2023: The Ancient Lore
According to earlier legend, a king named Mandhata lived on the banks of the Narmada river. One day the King Mandhata was lost in his penance which he was doing in a jungle, and suddenly a wild bear attacked him and chewed his feets. After this, he dragged the king with him, and the King then prayed for his protection and remembered Lord Vishnu. The prayer of the King got answered and Lord Vishnu came to his rescue and killed the bear with this Chakra (weapon). When King Mandhata saw that the bear was killed and he was saved, he took a breather, but as he looked at his feets, he became sad.
When Lord Vishnu saw that his devotee is sad then he said “O son, don’t worry and go to Mathura and observe the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi and then worship my Varaha Avatar’s idol with complete and proper devotion and methods, with the pious effects of this fast your feets will be healed and you will become powerful than before”. King Mandhata did what he was told by Lord Vishnu and with the auspicious effects of this fast the King became more handsome and robust. So, since then it is observed that whoever contemplates on Lord Vishnu, and observes the highly divine fast of Varuthini Ekadashi gets all of their wishes fulfilled and their sins get eradicated as well.

Offer Lord Vishnu yellow-colored flowers on the day of Varuthini Ekadashi in order to gain profits and progress in your business. With this, also recite this Mantra 11 to 21 times: ‘om namo bhagavate nārāyaṇāya।’
