Mercury Farthest From The Sun: April 11th, 2023 will present a spectacular view of the fast moving Mercury which is otherwise too close to the Sun to be seen properly. On April 11th in a rare astronomical event Mercury will be at the greatest elongation or the farthest point from the Sun. This means it’s far enough away from the Sun to be seen. It’ll be the best Mercury elongation of the year. Additionally, Mercury is near zero-magnitude at this time, making it brighter than the stars currently near it. Best time to view this unique occurrence is 30-45 mins after sunset. 

Saturn’s Rings Will Be Visible & Saturn & Moon Will Be The Closest- On April 15th and 16th, you’ll find the crescent Moon rising very close to the planet Saturn. They will be visible in the southeastern sky a couple of hours before sunrise. If you’re keen to watch this spectacular occurrence then make sure to have a telescope handy too as you could be pleasantly rewarded by its 16 inches wide disk and a thin set of 7 rings. The gas giant will be visible in and out all through the 2nd half of the month of April and on 30th of April you can even see Saturn’s moon Titan shining bright in the sky.

Hybrid Solar Eclipse- This year’s first solar eclipse will occur on April 20, 2023 from 7:05 am- 12:29 pm. It is also called the ‘Ningaloo solar eclipse’ or ‘hybrid solar eclipse’. The Hybrid solar eclipse is a rare occurrence and happens just once in a decade. The last hybrid solar eclipse was seen in 2013. A hybrid Solar Eclipse occurs when there is a combination of an annular eclipse and a total solar eclipse and is caused when the Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun making a transition to another. During this rare eclipse, the Sun forms a ring-like shape known as the ‘ring of fire’ for a few seconds. The eclipse will be visible in Australia, East and South Asia, Antarctica and the Indian Ocean. However, it will not be visible in India.

Venus And Moon Close Together- The moon and Venus will come together on the evening of 22nd and 23rd April with the slim crescent Moon hanging just five degrees above Venus after sunset. The Moon will then part ways with Venus and move close to Mars. The Red Planet will be below the Moon just after dark. 

Mars And Moon Close Together- On April 24th evening till April 25th morning, the planet Mars will appear near the waxing crescent Moon. The Moon will be 51 degrees above the western horizon as twilight ends with Mars 3 degrees to the left. The constellation Gemini will appear above the Moon and Mars.
