This results in doubts in the minds of many people about whether Tarpan should be performed on the Pitru Paksha day or not when the eclipse occurs. 

Eclipse Taking Place In Pitru Paksha

On 18 September 2024, the first Shraddha is taking place and on this day, the second lunar eclipse of the year is taking place. But, it won’t be visible in India, and on 02 October 2024, the last Shraddha is performed. Also, on this day the last solar eclipse of the year is taking place on Ashwin Amavasya. This eclipse will also not be visible in India. Thus, the shadow of the eclipse is looming over the first and last Shraddha. But, don’t the eclipses won’t have Sutak period and they won’t be visible in India.

As per religious beliefs, the eclipse is considered one of the inauspicious events, and two eclipses within 15 days are even considered more inauspicious. In such a situation, people need to take precautionary measures while performing the Pind Daan of ancestors on the last and last Shraddha day. 

Rules To Be Followed This Shraddha 

On the first day of Shraddha, the Lunar eclipse takes place and thus, Pind Daan occurs only after the end of Moksha Kaal on this day. On the other hand, on the last Shraddha, the solar eclipse is taking place at night. Thus, Tarpan needs to be performed during this day only. In the sequence, there won’t be any effects of the solar eclipse on Pitru Paksha.

Thus, this eclipse won’t be visible in India. 

Solar Eclipse 2024

On 02 October 2024, the Solar Eclipse starts at 09:13 pm and ends at 03:17 am after midnight. This eclipse will be visible in the northern part of South America, the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic, the Arctic, Chile, Peru, etc. This solar eclipse won’t be visible in India.
