Solar Eclipse According To Vedic Astrology

According to Hindu mythology, Solar and Lunar eclipses are not considered auspicious in our mythological stories. We find that the solar and lunar eclipse is associated with “Samudra Manthan”. When the ocean was churned, there was “Amrit” was produced; this Amrit was stolen by Asuras. To obtain the Amrit, Lord Vishnu took incarnation in the form of a beautiful apsara “Mohini” and tried to please and distract the asuras. After receiving the Amrit, Mohini went to the devas to distribute it to them. “Rahu”, one of the Asur, comes and sits between the Devtas to obtain some portion of the Amrit. Surya (Sun) and Chandra (Moon) realized that Rahu was an “Asura” and not one of the devas. Knowing this, Lord Vishnu got angry and severed the head of Rahu, who is still supposed to be alive due to the consumption of a few drops of Amrit. Thus, Rahu is believed to take revenge from “Surya” and “Chandra” in the form of the Solar and Lunar eclipses.
