The month of Sawan has started this year i.e. in the year 2021 on 25th July and this holy month will end on 22nd August 2021. During this month, there will be a total of four Mondays. The first Monday fast was kept on 26 July 2021 as soon as Sawan began.

Things to Keep in Mind During Sawan

  • The month of Sawan is very dear to Lord Shiva, so in this month worship Lord Shiva with a pure heart and mind. Whenever you worship Lord Shiva, do not forget to anoint him/or conduct his Rudraabhishek. This will bring special benefits.
  • In this holy month, whenever you get time, meditate on Lord Shiva by chanting ‘Om Namah Shivaya‘. With this Lord Shiva will be very pleased with you.
  • Offer things dear to Lord Shiva such as Belpatra, Bhang, Dhatura etc. Along with Lord Shiva, also worship Goddess Parvati. Perform Aarti of both in the evening.
  • Monday is of great importance in Sawan because Monday is specially dedicated to Lord Shiva and the importance of Monday falling in Sawan increases even more. In such a situation, keep fasts on the Mondays falling in Sawan. Do not take salt and food. Stay on a fruit diet.
  • If you are thinking of wearing Rudraksha, then there will be no better time than the month of Sawan. Wearing Rudraksha in Sawan is considered very auspicious.
  • Donate milk and milk products like ghee, curd etc. in the month of Sawan.
  • Keep the house clean. Take a bath everyday and wear clean clothes.

Things to Avoid During Sawan

  • Do not consume meat and alcohol even by mistake in the month of Sawan, otherwise Lord Shiva becomes very angry.
  • Massaging the body with oil in the month of Sawan is considered a taboo. So don’t do this.
  • Sleeping in the afternoon is considered particularly a taboo during this holy month.
  • Do not get a beard and haircut in the month of Sawan.
  • Tamasic foods like onion and garlic should be avoided in the month of Sawan.
  • Eating in a bronze vessel is also considered taboo in this month.
  • Never offer Tulsi leaves to Lord Shiva.
