Story Of Saphala Ekadashi
As per the mythological story, there was a king named Mahishman who ruled in the city of Champavati. The king had five sons, out of which the eldest son Lumbhak had a bad character and was involved in wrong deeds like drug addiction, prostitution, eating Tasmik food, gambling, disrespecting elders & brahmins, and more. The king was very upset with the deeds of the elder son and once he got very upset with his son & expelled him from the kingdom.
As the father threw him out of the kingdom, Lumbhak started wandering the forest area and eating kand-mool to fill his stomach. Once he was unable to sleep due to extreme cold and kept shivering the whole night, and in the process he became unconscious. It was the tenth day of Krishna Paksha of the Paush month. The next day, when he regained consciousness, he regretted his bad deeds, and after that, he started to collect fruits from the forest and kept them under a Peepal tree, and followed it with remembering Lord Vishnu. Due to the cold, he could not sleep the next night too, and thus chanted the name of Lord Vishnu for the whole night. Thus, he completed the Saphala Ekadashi fast in the process.
