Importance Of Pausha Amavasya
Pausha Amavasya is considered important for worshiping gods & goddesses and performing rituals for dead ancestors. The Amavasya is also referred to as Saubhagya Lakshmi month. As per the mythological stories, it is believed that two forms of Goddess Lakshmi, Dham Lakshmi and Dhanya Lakshmi, should be worshiped on the eve of Pausha Amavasya. By doing this, individuals never face a shortage of funds or a cash crunch in their lives. Worship Method To Follow On the Day Of Pausha Amavasya 2024
- On the day of Pausha Amavasya 2024, wake up early in the morning and take a bath in the Ganga River. If you are unable to visit Ganga or any other holy river for bathing, then at your home bathroom add a little bit of Gangajal to the bathing water and bathe with it.
- After that, meditate by taking the name of your favorite deity.
- Once the bathing is complete, take a copper pot and fill water in it, add red flowers & rice to it, and offer Arghya to the Sun God. During this period, chant the mantra ‘Om Suryay Namah’ continuously.
- After this, worship in your home temple. Also, bathe the Gods & Goddesses, and offer them clothes, flowers, & Kheer.
- On this day, to get rid of Pitra Dosha and get the blessing from the ancestors, prepare rice kheer, burn the cow dung cake or the core of the pot, and offer kheer on it for the ancestors. After offering the Bhog, take a little bit of water and leave it on the right-hand side, i.e. on the left side of the Bhog. Other than that, after taking out food for cows, crows, & dogs, offer food to Brahmins.
- On the day of Pausha Amavasya 2024, one needs to fill a pot with water and add materials like Ganga water, a little milk, rice grain, and sesame seeds. Then offer it to ancestors facing the south direction.

Story Of Pausha Amavasya
As per the mythological story, there was an extremely poor Brahmin and he had a beautiful, cultured, & virtuous daughter. But the Brahmin was facing it hard to get his daughter married. One day, a sage arrived at the doors of the Brahmin and he served the sage a lot. The sage was pleased with the services of Brahmin and blessed him. The Brahmin asked the sage for solutions for his daughter’s marriage. The sage, while explaining the solution, said that a family lived at some distance from the place. If he goes and serves his wife every day, the obstacles related to the marriage can be resolved. The next day, the girl wakes up early in the morning, goes to their house, cleans it, and returns to her home. The woman living in the home was surprised to see that every day he cleans the house and leaves even before she wakes up.
After a few days, when the woman saw Brahmin’s daughter doing this, she started asking who she was and why you cleaned her house every morning. Then the girl informed the woman of all the details said by the sage. The woman was pleased with the girl’s service and blessed her with early marriage. But as soon as she blessed the girl, her husband died. But, she didn’t give up due to it and took 108 rounds of the Peepal tree and prayed to Lord Vishnu for a husband in life. That day was Pausha Amavasya. Her husband came back with the grace of god. It is believed that going around the Peepal tree on the day of Paush Amavasya can fulfill the wishes of people.
