Why Has She Been Named as Maa Kalratri?
Maa Kalratri is a destroyer of ‘Kaal’ and for this very reason, she is known as Kalratri. In addition to this, it is also said that Maa Durga incarnated herself as Kalratri with her Tej to kill a demon named Raktabeej. The Tej of Maa Durga was so high that this incarnation of Maa Durga turned black.

The tradition of worshipping Maa Kalratri has been defined on the seventh day of Navratri. If we talk about this incarnation, she rides Gadarbh (donkey). She is black like pitch dark with scattered hair. She has three eyes and all of them are red as fire. She is wearing a white garland around her neck. Rituals to Venerate Maa Kalratri

- Wake up in the morning, take a bath, wear clothes of purple colour and venerate on the seventh day of Navratri.
- The worship of Kalash Devta i.e. Lord Ganesha with due rituals to be performed before venerating Maa Kalratri.
- Offer flowers, Akshat, Roli, sandalwood to Lord Ganesha and the idol to be bathed with milk, curd, sugar, Ghee, and honey. The Prasad which is to be offered to Maa Kalratri, first be offered to Lord Ganesha.
- After distributing Prasad, offer Achaman, Paan, and betel nut (Supari).
- After the worship of Kalash, worship Navagraha or nine planets, Dash Dikpal, city deity or Nagar Devta, village deity or Gram Devta.
