From a religious point of view, Nag Panchami has a special significance and the festival is dedicated to the Serpent God. As per the Hindu calendar, the Nag Panchami celebrations are done every year in the Sawan month and on the fifth day of the Shukla Paksha. This year, due to the extra month of Sawan, it has become 2 months, and thus the Nag Panchami festivals will be celebrated on 21 August 2023, Monday. The snake god is worshiped with full rituals on this day. But, the worship needs to be done at auspicious timelines for fruitful results.

In a similar way, Nag Panchami 2023 is very auspicious as two auspicious Yogas are formed in the period. On the day, auspicious Yoga will be formed early morning till 10.21 pm at night. Other than that, this year two festivals fall on Nag Panchami Day on Monday. Due to this, Nag Panchami celebrations and Sawan Somvar Vrat is observed on the auspicious day. In such a situation, devotees also get the chance to worship Lord Shiva and also the beloved serpent. 

Importance Of Nag Panchami 2023

In the Hindu religion, all beings have been given the status of God. In the sequence, the snake or serpent is also considered the deity as per the Hindu scriptures. The Nag Panchami celebrations are held to honor the snake god. On this day, the snake god is worshiped as per the specific rules & regulations. Worship Method Of Nag Panchami 2023 

  • As per Nag Panchami 2023, there are eight main deities of this festival as follows: Vasuki, Anant, Padma, Mahapadma, Tashak, Kulir, Karkat and Shankha, etc. The tradition is to worship these Ashtanagas on this day. 
  • For successful Nag Puja, the food should be consumed only once a day and before the Panchami Tithi i.e. on Chaturthi Tithi. 
  • After this, fast on the Panchami Tithi and eat food only after the completion of the fast. 
  • Install a picture or statue of the snake god on a post or if you wish, make an idol of the serpent god with clay. 
  • Also, offer Turmeric Vermilion, Akshat (Rice), Milk, Flowers, etc. to the serpent god. 
  • In raw milk, mix sugar & Ghee and offer the product to the snake god with full devotion. 
  • After the Abhishek, listen to the Nag Dev story and also perform Aarti to get the blessings of the god.

Avoid Doing These Work Even By Mistake On Nag Panchami 2023 

  • Do not use copper vessels on Nag Panchami to anoint Lord Shiva and the Snake God with milk. Also, keep in mind that copper vessels are used to anoint with water, and brass vessels are used for offering milk. On Nag Panchami day, one should restrain from causing any sort of trouble to the snakes. 
  • Worshiping the living snake and troubling it can lead to becoming a partner of sin. Also, avoid feeding milk to snakes on Nag Panchami as milk acts as poison for snakes.  
  • On this day, avoid cooking food in the pan, and doing this can result in hurting the Snake God. 
  • The use of sharp and pointed objects like knives, scissors, needles, etc. is considered inauspicious on Nag Panchami. 
  • Avoid doing tasks like digging up land & others on Nag Panchami because by doing so, the snake holes inside the ground may break.

  • Recite Shri Sarp Sukta or Nag Panchami to reduce the inauspicious effects of Kaal Sarp Dosh.
