The Ekadashi day of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month begins on 22 December 2023, Friday morning at 08:18 AM, according to the Hindu calendar. This date will come to an end the following day, Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 07:14 a.m. In this case, the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi will be observed on December 22nd based on Udaya Tithi.

  • After that, make your mind up to observe fast on Ekadashi and to pray to Lord Vishnu.
  • Then clean the area where you will do the Puja and keep a clean platform for Lord Vishnu’s idol. Install a yellow cloth over the post and a portrait or idol of Lord Vishnu. Begin worshiping Lord Vishnu after that.

Mokshada Ekadashi: Old Folklore 

According to history, Champaknagar was ruled by a monarch named Vaikhanas. The people of Champaknagar had complete faith in Lord Vishnu. The king had a horrible dream one night. In his dream, the king witnessed his father being tortured a lot in Yamalok. The worried monarch called a gathering of his ministers and told them about his dream. Also, he requested that all ministers investigate the way to free his father. The ministers advised the monarch to visit Parvat Muni’s Ashram and seek his assistance. And will undoubtedly assist them. Following the ministers’ advice, the monarch went to the sage’s ashram and told him about his dream. The Parvat sage then addressed the king, saying, ‘O king! Your father committed a crime that has sentenced him to torture in Yamalok.

When the king asked about the path to redemption, the sage advised him to fast on Mokshada Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month and obey the laws and regulations. Donate to the poor on this day as well. This will result in the salvation of his father’s soul. Following the advice of Parvat Puni, the king observed the Mokshada Ekadashi fast and performed charitable acts. As a result, all of the king’s ancestors who were tortured in Yamalok were freed and attained Vaikuntha Dham.

Points To Be Noted On Mokshada Ekadashi 

  • On the day of Mokshada Ekadashi, do not cut trees or pluck flowers and leaves, according to the scriptures. Pluck a basil leaf a day in advance to offer to Lord Vishnu.
  • Do not eat rice on Ekadashi, even by mistake, because it is believed that eating rice on this day will turn you into a crawling worm in the next life.
  • On this day, avoid eating barley, lentils, brinjal, and bean pods. Aside from that, avoid tamasic things such as meat, alcohol, onion, garlic, and so on on this day.
  • During this period, do not accept meals from others because it will destroy your virtue.
  • On the day of Mokshada Ekadashi, do not be angry or condemn someone.
  • On this day, follow celibacy.

Chant Mantras Of Lord Vishnu  

On this day, while worshiping Lord Vishnu, recite his Mantras while wearing a Tulsi garland. Also, anoint Lord Vishnu with saffron milk. This provides relief from all of life’s worries.

On the fasting day of Ekadashi, worship the banana tree. On this day, it is especially important to worship the banana tree. On this Ekadashi, take a clean betel leaf and write ‘Shree’ with saffron on it, then offer it with devotion to Lord Vishnu.
