Mithun Sankranti Pujan Vidhi

  • On the day of Mithun Sankranti, wake up early in the morning and take a bath in the holy water Ganga. If taking a bath in Ganga is not possible then mix the Ganga water with the bathing water at home and take a divine bath.
  • Wear clean clothes.
  • Pour water into a copper vessel and add red Sandalwood, roli, and red flowers and then offer it to the Sun. Make sure the water from the vessel falls in another copper vessel and not on the floor during the Arghya procedure. Then offer that water to the plant and tree where no one’s feet touch the plant.
  • While offering Arghya, chant the Mantra: “Om Ghrini Suryay Namah” with clear pronunciation.
  • After offering Arghya, pay respect to the Surya Dev and do a Parikrama 7 times by standing in one place.
  • Face towards the east direction and take a seat and chant at least one rosary of this Mantra.
  • On this day you can also recite the Aditya Hriday Stotra.
  • Those who wish to offer fast on this day, after doing Pradakshina, take a vow to fast with your true devotion.
  • Take a plate for Puja and put a lighted-up Diya with Sandalwood, red flowers, and Cow Ghee in it.
  • After worshiping, distribute the offerings (Prasad) of sesame and jaggery.
  • Donate food or clothes to the needy as per your spending capacity. Usually, donating green-colored items on this day is considered auspicious.
  • Feed Brahmins and donate grains or fruits etc. 
  • Those who are observing fast should take a bath with Sesame and Gangajal water in the bathing water.
