Legend has it, when the Britishers were constructing a road between Worli and Breach Candy in Mumbai, a deadly storm occurred because of which construction activities had to be stopped. It is believed an Indian engineer named Ramji was involved in this project. Goddess Lakshmi appeared in his dream and ordered him to withdraw three idols from the sea and establish a Temple in that very place. Until and unless the three idols were withdrawn from the sea, the construction work could not begin. This is how the most famous Mahalakshmi Temple came into existence.
