Legend/Katha Of Papankusha Ekadashi Vrat

It is said that any fast stands incomplete unless the Katha of that fast is heard. Let us tell you the Katha/Legend of Papankusha Ekadashi Vrat.

In old times, there used to be a cruel hunter named Krodhan on Vindhya Mountains, who spent his entire life in wrongdoings like violence, robbery etc. When Krodhan was taking his last breath, Yamraj ordered his messengers to bring Krodhan. Yamdoots told Krodhan that tomorrow is his last day and that will be his last day on Earth.

He was frightened to hear that his death was near and the bad deeds filmed before his eyes. Now, he knew that the fruits of his bad deeds will have to be borne after death. Krodhan rushed to the Ashram of Maharishi Angira and started crying in pain before him. He asked Maharishi for the redemption of misdeeds. Seeing the condition of Krodhan, Maharishi took pity on him and advised him to observe the fast of Papamkusha Ekadashi for redemption of his sins.

Finally, Krodhan observed the fast of Papankusha Ekadashi with due rituals and then, he attained salvation (Moksha) by the grace of God.
