According to the Hindu Panchang, Lord Ganesha was born on Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha during Bhadrapad month, which is why Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on this day. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated for ten days and the celebration ends with Anant Chaturdashi on the tenth day. This ten-day long festival ends after the immersion of Ganesha’s idol on Anant Chaturdashi. The day of Wednesday in a week is considered auspicious for the worship of Ganesha.

Items To Be Offered to Lord Ganesha
Ganpati, who is known as the God of high wisdom, helps in developing knowledge and improves intellect. Therefore, devotees worship him with true devotion and dedication to receive his blessings. Devotees keep certain things in mind while worshipping Lord Ganesha so that mistakes do not take place. Why is Modak offered as Prashad to Lord Ganpati?
Lord Ganapati, the Lord of Riddhi & Siddhi, must be offered Modak as a prasad at the time of worship. According to the Puranas, there was a fight between Ganapati and Parashuram, in which Ganpati lost one of his teeth.
Due to the broken teeth, it became difficult for him to have anything. In view of this, dishes that cause no pain in teeth and are easy to have were prepared. Modak is one among all of them and is very soft to have. Also, it is said that Lord Ganesha liked Modak very much and since then, it has become his favourite sweet. Therefore, devotees offer Modak to Lord Ganesha to please him.
Stories related to Modak have also been mentioned in ancient scriptures. Modak means happiness or joy. Lord Ganesha is considered to be the God of happiness and auspicious occasions and hence, he is offered Modak.
Why is Moon Sighting not allowed on Ganesh Chaturthi?
It is believed that Moon sighting should not be done on Ganesh Chaturthi. Otherwise, a person may face a false allegation. According to Puranas, once Lord Krishna sighted the Moon on Ganesh Chaturthi due to which he faced a false allegation. There is another saying in Puranas that Lord Ganesha cursed the Moon on this day of Chaturthi. It is because of this very reason Moon sighting is considered inauspicious.

Worship Lord Ganesha with these Rituals
- First of all, take a bath in the morning.
- Then, make an idol of copper or clay of Lord Ganesha.
- Now, fill water in Kalash and tie a new cloth around its neck. Then, place the idol of Lord Ganesha on it.
- Lord Ganesha must be offered Sindoor, Durva, Ghee and 21 Modaks by following all rites and rituals.
- In the end, distribute Ladoos to the poor people and Brahmans.
- During the ten days of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, one can keep the idol of Lord Ganesha for one, three, five, seven or nine days.
