The Story Of Bhakt Prahlad
According to Hindu mythology, the ritual of Holika Dahan primarily commemorates Bhakt Prahlad. Despite being born into a demon clan, Prahlad remained a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu. His father, the powerful demon king Hiranyakashipu, grew furious upon witnessing Prahlad’s unwavering devotion to Vishnu. Displeased with his son’s faith, Hiranyakashipu subjected Prahlad to various forms of severe torment. Hiranyakashipu’s sister, Holika, possessed a garment that rendered her immune to fire. She deceived Prahlad into sitting on her lap in the fire to kill him. However, through Lord Vishnu’s grace, Holika was reduced to ashes, and Prahlad survived.
