Pujan Vidhi for Hartalika Teej Vrat

  • The worship for this Teej festival is performed during Pradosh Muhurat for the long life and happiness of husbands and also, for having a husband of one’s choice. Pradosh Kaal is the fusion time of day and night.
  • There is a ritual of worshipping Maa Paravati and Lord Shiva. During this Puja ceremony, women make idols of sand and clay of Maa Paravati and Lord Shiva.
  • Then, the idols of Lord Shiv, Maa Parvati and Lord Ganesh are placed on banana leaves and are offered perfume and flowers.
  • After this, Maa Parvati, Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha are worshipped with Shodashopachara Puja rituals.
  • Women offer a basket full of Suhaag(items meant for married women) items to Maa Parvati and a Dhoti to Lord Shiv. This is considered to be an important and integral part of this worship.
  • Then, the basket full of Suhaag items and Dhoti are donated to a Brahmin.
  • Further, listen to the katha of Hartalika Teej and perform Jagran and the fast ends after taking a bath and performing the due worship in the morning.

Rules to Keep in Mind During Hartalika Teej Vrat

As we have already told you that the fast (Vrat) of Hartalika is considered to be the hardest and most fruitful amongst all other Teej fasts. Let us learn some important and mandatory rules concerning this fast.

  • The fast of Hartalika is observed without consuming water and eating food. Along with this, the fast is ended on the following day after performing worship.
  • This fast has to be observed for years if it is observed once by women.
  • Sleeping at night is not allowed and a woman who observes this fast performs Jagran and Bhajan-Kirtan and ends it the following day after bathing and worshipping. 
  • Unmarried girls also observe this fast and those women who have lost their husbands can also observe this fast.

  • Women and girls who observe this fast are advised to adorn themselves with Solah Srihnghar (sixteen items of makeup meant for married women) and offer water to Lord Shiva and red Chunri to Maa Parvati. This brings happiness and prosperity in married life. If a woman is unable to go to temple, then the same can also be observed at home. 
  • Kheer must be offered while worshipping. This kheer must be offered to God, after which your husband should consume it. End the fast on the following day by consuming this kheer. 
  • After worship, five elderly married women are gifted Saree and Bhichiya (toe rings) and then seek the blessings of your husband by touching his feet. This leads to a happy life and keeps misfortunes away.
  • During the auspicious time, you can ask your husband to apply the Sindoor on the parting of your hair.
