Fix Guru Dosha With These Guru Purnima Remedies!

According to Hindu Panchang, Guru Purnima is celebrated on the Purnima Tithi of Ashadh month. In 2022, this tithi is falling on 13 July. On this day, the Gurus are worshiped because Guru is the only person, who is the benefactor of knowledge, or we can say that the person who takes us to the light from the darkness. Some wise words by Sant Kabir on this,

गुरु गोविंद दोऊ खड़े, काके लागूं पांय|

बलिहारी गुरु आपने| गोविंद दियो बताय||

Guru Govind Dou Khade, Kaake Langu Paaye.

Balihari Guru Aapne. Govind Diyo Bataaye.

Means: When Guru (Teacher) and Gobind/ God standing together then whom should you greet first? In this situation, you must greet your Guru first as, it is because of the Guru only you are able to get the knowledge and privilege of seeing and worshiping God.

This Doha by Kabir Das Ji is not a Doha but in Hindu religion and Indian culture, it explains the importance of a guru/ teacher. Apart from this, we have also heard the stories of Eklavya and Lord Parshuram which explains the pride and dedication toward a teacher.

Significance Of Guru Purnima

It is believed that in ancient times, a great personality, Maharishi Ved Vyas Ji, who is considered to be the author of wonderful literature like Brahmasutra, Mahabharata, Shrimad Bhagwat, and 18th Puran was born on Ashadha Purnima. It is said that Maharishi Ved Vyas was the first to teach the Vedas to a person, hence he has been given the status of the first Guru in Hinduism. This is the reason why Guru Purnima is also called the Vyas Purnima.

According to the Hindu scriptures, Maharishi Ved Vyas was the son of Parashar Rishi and he was the knower of the 3 worlds. He had come to know from his divine vision that in Kaliyuga, people would lose their faith in religion, and due to this a person would become an atheist, avoid the duties, and will live a short life. Therefore, Maharishi Ved Vyas divided the Vedas into 4 parts so that those who have less intellectual level or who have less memorizing power, can also get the benefits from studying the Vedas.

Once Vyas Ji separated all the Vedas individually, he then gave the names Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and Atharvaveda respectively. Due to the division of the Vedas in this way, he became famous by the name Vedavyasa. After this, he gave the knowledge of these four Vedas to his favorite students Vaishampayana, Sumantumuni, Pail, and Jaimin.

The knowledge present in the Vedas was extremely mysterious and difficult to understand, that is why Ved Vyas Ji composed the Puranas in the form of the 5th Veda, in which the knowledge of the Vedas is explained in the form of interesting stories. He gave the knowledge of Puranas to his student Romaharshana. After this, the disciples or the students of Ved Vyas Ji, based on their intelligence, divided the Vedas into many branches and sub-branches. Ved Vyas Ji is also considered to be our Adi-Guru , so on the day of Guru Purnima, we should worship our gurus, considering them as disciples of Ved Vyas Ji.
