The fast and worship of Devuthani Ekadashi are observed with great devotion, discipline, and faith. On this day, devotees take a holy bath early in the morning, make a vow to fast, and perform the ritual of awakening Lord Vishnu. The procedure of the puja is as follows:
- Wake up before sunrise, take a bath, and clean the place of worship in your home.
- Spread a yellow cloth on a wooden platform or chowki and place an idol or picture of Lord Vishnu on it.
- Keep the sacred Shaligram Shila in front of the idol and place a Tulsi plant nearby.

Dos:
- Take a bath before sunrise, meditate on Lord Vishnu, and take a vow to observe the fast.
- Observe a fast or eat only fruits on this day. Keep Lord Vishnu in your remembrance throughout the day.
- Perform proper worship of Lord Vishnu, Shaligram, and Tulsi, light a lamp, and chant mantras.
- In the evening, perform the Tulsi Vivah ceremony, marrying Tulsi Mata to Lord Shaligram (an avatar of Lord Vishnu). This is considered highly auspicious.
