The Story Of Devuthani Ekadashi 2025

According to religious texts, when Lord Vishnu enters his Yog Nidra on Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi, he rests for four months in the Kshirsagar. This period is called Chaturmas, during which no auspicious or ceremonial activities are performed. When Lord Vishnu awakens from his sleep on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, a joyous atmosphere spreads among the gods and devotees.

The story goes that once Sage Narad asked Lord Vishnu about the significance of Devuthani Ekadashi. Lord Vishnu replied that on this day, I awaken, and the devotee who observes the fast and performs worship on this day attains my supreme abode. From this day onwards, auspicious ceremonies like marriages are considered appropriate to begin.

It is believed that once a king observed the fast and organized the Tulsi Vivah on this day, marking the start of auspicious activities in his kingdom. As a result, his kingdom experienced prosperity, peace, and happiness. Since then, the tradition of Tulsi Vivah has continued on this day, where Goddess Tulsi is ceremonially married to Lord Shaligram.
