According to mythology, Seth-Sethani resided in a city. Seth ji’s wife used to worship Lord Shri Hari with complete devotion every day, but seeing Sethani’s devotion, her husband became enraged, and one day Seth threw her out of the house. Sethani exited the house and went into the forest. On the way, Sethani saw that four men were digging soil in the jungle, and seeing this, Sethani requested them to hire her.

They hired Sethani at her request. Sethani developed palm blisters while working. When those men saw this, they asked Sethani to quit the job and do the housework. They took Sethani to their house after she agreed. Sethani used to prepare their meals. Every day, those men would carry four handfuls of rice and share and eat it. Sethani was devastated to see this. Sethani, seeing this, instructed the four men to bring eight handfuls of rice.

The four men began bringing eight handfuls of rice every day after hearing Sethani speak. When Sethani made rice, she would first present it to Lord Vishnu before serving it to everyone else. This time, the four men thought the food was delicious and inquired about its secret while admiring Sethani’s cooking. As a result, Sethani asserted that this meal is Lord Vishnu’s leftover. The cuisine now tastes better as a result of this. On the other hand, Seth began to starve after Sethani left, so he went out into the forest to find Sethani.  On the way, he came across those four men digging the soil. Seth requested them to hire him for this work.

The four men later hired him as well, but Seth also developed blisters on his hands from digging mud, similar to Sethani. Observing this, he also requested Seth to take care of the housework. After hearing him, Seth went to his home. Seth immediately recognized Sethani when he got home, but Sethani was in Veil (Ghunghat) and couldn’t see him. Like every day, this time too Sethani offered food to Lord Vishnu but as soon as Sethani began giving food to Seth, Lord Vishnu held Sethani’s hand and said what are you doing, then Sethani said I am serving meals to them.

The four brothers asked Sethani that we, too, needed to see Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu appeared in front of everyone upon Sethani’s plea. Seth apologized to Sethani for his mistake and asked her to accompany him home. The four brothers then bid farewell to their sister by lavishing her with money and wealth. Following this, Seth became a devotee of Lord Vishnu and became immersed in his devotion. It is believed that observing the Chaitra Purnima fast preserves the grace of Hanuman ji, Lord Shri Ram, Mother Sita, and Lord Satyanarayan.
