Bhanu Saptami Vrat Pujan Vidhi 

  • Take a bath after waking up early in the morning and resolve to venerate Lord Sun on the day of Bhanu Spatami.
  • After this, fill clean water in a copper utensil, put red Chandan, Akshat, any flower of red colour and offer water to Lord Sun by reciting the Mantra – ‘ॐ सूर्याय नमः’ /  – ‘oṃ sūryāya namaḥ’. During this, pray to Lord Sun with folded hands to have his grace on you and your family.
  • In addition to this, donation also plays a pivotal role on this very day. One who does charity after worship, remains blessed with wealth.
  • Must recite the Beej Mantra – ‘ ऊँ घृणि सूर्याय नम:’ / -‘ ūm̐ ghṛṇi sūryāya nama: and Path of  ‘ – ॐ सूर्याय नम:’ / – oṃ sūryāya nama:’ while venerating Lord Sun on this very day. In addition to this, if possible, avoid the use of salt in food.

Significance of Bhanu Saptami Vrat

Legend Pertaining to Bhanu Saptami Vrat

As per prevailing legend, it is said about this day that there used to be a street walker named Indumati. Once, she asked sage Vasistha how to attain Moksha as she had never performed any religious activity but she had a desire to attain the same i.e. Moksha after death. 

Vasistha replied after listening to Indumati that no fast is greater than the fast of Achala Saptami or Bhanu Saptami for ladies to attain salvation, beauty and good luck. Any woman who observes this fast and venerates sincerely, gets blessed with the most desired fruits and therefore, she was advised that if she wanted to attain salvation then she should observe this fast and venerate Lord Sun with due rituals.   

After hearing Vasistha Ji, Indumati observed this fast and after death, she attained heaven. In heaven, she was made the heroine of the Apsaras. At the behest of this very belief, this fast holds high significance.
