According to myth, Lord Vishnu accepted Adhikamas and became its reigning god. Purushottam is also the name of Lord Vishnu, which is why many people refer to Adhik Maas as Purushottam Maas.

Every year, only four or five Mangala Gauri fasts are done, but this year, nine Mangala Gauri fasts are being performed, which is an auspicious coincidence.
