Hindu Panchang This Week

As per the Hindu Panchang, the third week of January will begin with the Tritiya (third day) of Krishna Paksha of the Magha month, under the Ashlesha Nakshatra. Conversely, it will come to an end on the tenth day (Dashami) of Krishna Paksha of the Magha month under the Vishakha month. 

In the days between 13-19 January 2020, many important festivals and events will also occur. The details of the upcoming festivals and events are mentioned below. 

Sankashti Chaturthi – Sankashti Chaturthi  happens to be a prominent festival of the Hindus. It stands for one’s redemption from all kinds of evils and dangers. As per Hindu cultural beliefs and rituals, Lord Ganesha is venerated before initiating any suspicious activity. During this week, Sankashti Chaturthi will be celebrated on 13 January, 2020. 

Pongal – Pongal usually arrives on the 14 or 15 January as per the Gregorian calendar. By the month of January, the sugarcane and paddy crops become ready to ripen in Tamil Nadu. The Pongal festival lasts for about three to four days. During this year, Pongal will be celebrated on 15 January, which falls this week.

Uttarayan – The Sun’s movement in the northern direction is known as Uttarayan. The duration of Uttarayan begins from 14 January onwards as per the Gregoian calendar. On this occasion, the festival of Makar Sankranti will be celebrated. In the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra, this festival will be celebrated as Uttarayan only. During this particular week, Uttarayan will be celebrated on 15 January. 

Makar Sankranti – For the followers of Hindu religion and culture, Makar Sankranti is a prominent festival. Uttarayan takes place on this particular day only, when the Northern Hemisphere turns towards the Sun. Astrological considerations state that on this very day, the planet Sun enters the zodiac sign, Capricorn. During this year, Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on 15 January, which will take place during this week only. 

Planetary Transits this Week

When the third week of January begins, the planet Moon will remain posited in the zodiac sign Cancer. Afterwards, it will move on to take a nest in the Leo, Virgo and Scorpio signs. The week will end with Chandrama’s presence in the Scorpio sign.
