In ancient times, there existed a town called Kundin in the Magadha kingdom. Among its residents was a woman named Charumati, who demonstrated unwavering dedication to her family, dutifully fulfilling her responsibilities towards her mother-in-law, father-in-law, and husband. Additionally, she was a fervent devotee of Goddess Lakshmi, and her worship and rituals for the deity were marked by deep reverence. One night, in a dream, Goddess Lakshmi appeared before Charumati and directed her to observe the Varalakshmi Vrat on the Friday preceding the full moon day of the month of Shravana.
Following the divine guidance, Charumati dutifully observed the Varalakshmi Vrat on the specified Friday. As she completed the puja and circumambulated the sacred Kalash, a remarkable transformation occurred. Her body adorned itself with radiant golden ornaments, and Charumati became bedecked in exquisite gold jewelry. Moreover, her household was blessed with prosperity and abundance.
