Utpanna Ekadashi Vrat Katha
The legend goes that there lived a king named the Mur who created havoc and disturbance with his evil deed in the three worlds. He was a demon king. All the deities were sick and tired of him but were petrified of his evil deeds at the same time to take any action against this demon king. They approached Lord Vishnu to help them out of this situation. Lord Vishnu fought with the Mur for hundreds of years. Tired of the battle, Lord Vishnu wanted to take rest for some time, and he entered a cave and took a nap. This cave was named Himavati. Demon Mura came up with a plan of killing the Lord in the sleeping state inside that cave. At that moment, a beautiful woman appeared in front of the demon king and killed him after a long fight. When Lord Vishnu woke up, he was stunned to see the demon Mur dead. This woman was a form of Lord Vishnu, and she was given the name Ekadashi. Since then, the day is celebrated as Ekadashi to commemorate this victory.
