According to Hindu Panchang, Kalashtami Puja is performed on the Ashtami Tithi during Krishna Paksha every month. This month, Kalashtami will be observed on 12 July 2020. On this auspicious day, one of the incarnations of Lord Shiva named Kaal Bhairav is worshipped. According to the prevailing belief about this day, revering the Lord on this day eliminates all kinds of negative energy circulating within the house.
According to mythological legends, on the day of Kalashtami, Lord Shiva took his Rudra avatar as Kaal Bhairav to destroy evil forces prevailing on this earth. Apart from this, Maa Durga is also venerated in several parts of India on this day.

Kalashtami Puja Rituals
On the day of Kalashtami, Bhairav Dev is worshipped mainly during the night as Lord Bhairava has been considered the God of Tantriks. Along with revering Bhairav Dev at night, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati should also be worshipped.
- Firstly, wake up early before sunrise and take a bath. Then wear fresh clothes and start the puja rituals.
- As per the religious provision, the ash brought from the cremation ground is usually offered to Lord Bhairav during the puja ritual.
- Since a black-coloured dog is considered the mount of Lord Bhairav, it is considered a provision to venerate a black-coloured dog along with Lord Bhairav.

According to a legend associated with it, there was a time when a debate sparked between the Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, the Trinity, about who is the most revered among them?
Thinking no such conclusion can be derived for their dispute, they summoned the Gods of Heaven, known as Devtas, to settle this debate and asked them to decide. Meanwhile, a conflict arose between Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma, which made Mahadev extremely angry. With this, he adorned his Raudra (aggressive) form. Bhairav Dev Accused Of Brahma-Hatya
After Brahma ji was beheaded, Bhairon Dev was accused with Brahma-Hatya. In order to prevent from suffering the aftermath, Lord Bhairav had to lead his life as a poor Brahman in the city of Banaras for some years. Because Lord Shiva had punished Brahma Ji in the form of Bhairav Dev on the day of Kalashtami, this day is also observed as Dandapani Jayanti in some places.
