Rituals to be Performed on the Day of Sharda Puja
- Roll Molly on your wrist after counting Navkar garland of worship thrice.
- After this, Fill clean water in Kalash and tie Molly while counting the beads of Navkar.
- Then, roll the Molly on coconut, place the same with Kalash on Swastika and roll the Molly on pen and ink-pot while counting the beads of Navkar.
- Further, write – ॐ नमः / – oṃ namaḥ on the first page of a new ledger account after creating a long Swastika with Chandan or Kumkum.
- After, put the Akhand Paan on Swastika and then, put cardamom, cloves, ledger account on the same i.e. Swastika and worship.
- Venerate Maa Sharda and Maa Lakshmi.

Significance of Sharda Puja
There is a belief in Hinduism that wealth doesn’t last permanently with a person without knowledge and wisdom. In this pretext, if a person becomes full of wealth with the blessings of Maa Lakshmi and he/she does not take the blessings of Lord Ganesha and Maa Saraswati, then wealth and prosperity will not remain permanently and even, the increase in the same will not take place.
Lord Ganesha and Maa Saraswati are considered to be the providers of wealth and wisdom. Therefore, intelligence for wealth and knowledge for the increase in that wealth, is extremely important. Therefore, there is a belief of venerating the providers of wealth and wisdom along with Maa Lakshmi on the day of Diwali.
The day of Sharda Puja is considered to be special for students. On the same day, the students venerate Maa Saraswati with due rituals in order to succeed in their education and take her blessings. In addition to this, the Puja is also considered to be beneficial as per business point of view. In Gujarat, the traditional ledger accounts are known as Chopda and therefore, people perform Chopda Puja in the same state on the day of Sharda Puja.

There is a tradition of performing Chopda Puja in the parts of Gujarat on the day of Diwali. Every businessman purchases an account register and starts a new ledger account on the day of Diwali as it is considered to be auspicious for their business. Across the country, the Baniya community purchases an account register on Dhanteras for Chopda Puja. Along with this, the auspicious Muhurat for Puja is decided and the Puja is performed on the day of Diwali.
