Talking about the story of Saphala Ekadashi 2025, according to the legend, there lived a king named Mahishman in Champawati town. The king had five sons, in which the eldest son Lumbhak was characterless, he was always involved in bad activities like taking intoxicants, eating Tamasic food, prostitution, gambling, disrespecting elders and Brahmins etc.
The king was very troubled by these actions of his son and once, fed up with him, he expelled his son from the kingdom. When his father expelled him from the kingdom, Lumbhak started wandering in the forest and started filling his stomach by eating roots and tubers. Once, due to extreme cold, he could not sleep at night and kept shivering the whole night, due to which he fainted.
That day was the tenth day of Krishna Paksha of Paush month. The next day when he regained consciousness, he regretted his sinful deeds, after which he collected some fruits from the forest and placed them near the Peepal tree and remembered Lord Vishnu.
It was so cold that he could not sleep that night and he kept chanting the name of Lord Vishnu the whole night. In this way he completed the fast of Saphala Ekadashi. Due to the effect of this fast, he decided to follow the path of religion and started doing good deeds.
When the king came to know about this, he called his son Lumbhak back to the kingdom and decided to hand over all the responsibility of the kingdom to him. In this way the importance of the fast of Saphala Ekadashi 2025 increased further.
