Paush Putrada Ekadashi will be observed on Tuesday, 30 December 2025. This will be the last Ekadashi of the year 2025. According to the Hindu Panchang, the Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha of the Paush month is known as Paush Putrada Ekadashi. According to traditional beliefs, observing a fast on this Ekadashi is believed to bless devotees with children.

Paush Putrada Ekadashi 2025: Vrat Katha

According to ancient scriptures, there was a king named Suketuman who lived in a certain kingdom, and his wife’s name was Shaivya. The king and queen had no children, and this caused them constant distress. The king was deeply troubled thinking about who would handle his kingdom after him, who would perform his last rites, shraddha, pind daan, and other rituals after his death, who would grant him liberation, and who would offer tarpan to his ancestors.

One day, the king went into the forest for a walk and was mesmerized by the beauty of nature. There, he saw deer, peacocks, and other animals and birds living happily with their mates and offspring. Seeing this made him even more upset. He wondered why, despite performing numerous good deeds, he remained childless.

At that moment, the king felt thirsty and went in search of water. He then noticed an ashram of sages near the riverbank. The king approached the ashram and bowed to all the sages. Impressed by the king’s humility, the sages were pleased and asked him to request a boon. The king said, “O revered sages, I have everything, but I have no child. Recently, this sorrow has consumed me day and night.”

Hearing this, the sages replied, “O King, today the Lord has bestowed His special grace upon you, and by His blessing, you have reached this place.” The sages advised the king to observe the Putrada Ekadashi fast with full devotion. The king followed their instruction and broke his fast on Dwadashi as per the rules.

A few days later, the queen became pregnant, and soon they were blessed with a radiant and virtuous son. In the end, the king attained moksha. Thus, the significance of this fast becomes even greater.

Paush Putrada Ekadashi 2025: Puja Vidhi

On the day of Putrada Ekadashi, wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and wear clean clothes. Then, stand in your home’s place of worship and take a vow to observe the fast. Clean the temple area and purify the entire house. Install an idol of Lord Vishnu in the temple and fill water in a conch shell (shankh) to perform the abhishek of the deity. 

After the abhishek, apply sandalwood paste (chandan) tilak to Lord Vishnu and worship Him with rice, flowers, abir, gulal, perfume, etc. Then light a ghee lamp in front of the idol. It is considered highly auspicious to wear yellow clothes while performing the Puja on Paush Putrada Ekadashi, as yellow is very dear to Lord Vishnu. Also offer yellow clothes to Lord Vishnu.

Next, offer seasonal fruits, amla, cloves, lemon, and betel nuts to the deity. Then offer kheer made from cow’s milk, and make sure to add a Tulsi leaf to the kheer. After this, read the Putrada Ekadashi Katha and perform the aarti.

On the day of Paush Putrada Ekadashi 2025, visit a temple and worship Lord Hari Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. At night, sing bhajans and kirtans dedicated to Lord Vishnu. On the next day (Dwadashi), feed Brahmins and only then break your fast.

Important Things to Keep in Mind on Paush Putrada Ekadashi 2025

• Do not use abusive or harsh words on this day; avoid quarrels and refrain from anger.
• Eat satvik (pure vegetarian) food on Ekadashi, and those observing the fast should avoid consuming grains.
• Consumption of rice is strictly prohibited on Ekadashi. Also avoid meat, fish, alcohol, eggs, etc.
