Nirjala Ekadashi Vrat: Tithi & Muhurat

The fast of Nirjala Ekadashi will begin from 30th May 2023, Tuesday from 1:09 pm and it will end on 31st May 2023, Wednesday at 1:47 pm. Due to Uday Tithi, this Ekadashi fast will be kept on 31st May 2023. The Muhurat of Vrat Parana will be from 5:23 am to 8:09 am on 1st June 2023, Thursday.

Nirjala Ekadashi Fast: Ancient Lore

This lore is associated with Dwapar Yuga, in the time of Mahabharata. One day, King Pandu’s son, Bhimsen asked Maharishi Ved Vyas for help. He said that “All my family members observe the fast of Ekadashi and also tell me to do the same, but I am not able to control my hunger, so tell me a remedy”. Maharishi Ved Vyas then told Bhimsen that “You should observe the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi, in which you have to give up water and food, and by doing so you will receive the blessings of all the Ekadashis and you will be free from all sins”. Hence, by observing his fast King Pandu’s Son, Bhimsen was freed from all sins. 

Worship Methods Of Nirjala Ekadashi Vrat

  • On the day of Ekadashi, one must wake up in the morning and after taking a bath should worship Lord Vishnu with complete and proper methods. 
  • After doing the worship, chant this Mantra of Lord Vishnu:  “oṃ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya”
  • When the chanting of the Mantra is done, then listen to the complete story of fast and after that engage yourself in Lord’s kirtan. 
  • Charity takes a significant place on the day of Nirjala Ekadashi. So, you can donate clothes, umbrellas, food, and bedclothes.
