Tulsidas Jayanti 2026: Life Story Of Goswami Tulsidas

Goswami Tulsidas was born in 1532 AD in the village of Rajapur, currently situated on the banks of Yamuna river in Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name was Atmaram Dubey, while his mother was Hulsi Devi. According to history, he was born with 32 teeth and the first word he uttered after birth was ‘Rama’.

Because of this extraordinary beginning, he was lovingly named ‘Rambola’, meaning the one who speaks the name of Lord Rama. Despite these auspicious signs, his childhood was filled with hardships. His parents passed away only a few days after his birth, and he was raised by a devoted maidservant. However, when Rambola was just five years old, she too passed away, leaving him orphaned once again. A turning point came when Sadgurudev Shri Narharidas ji accepted the young boy as his disciple. He brought Rambola to Ayodhya, where he performed his sacred thread ceremony (Janeyu Sanskar) and took responsibility for his education.

Under the guidance of his Guru, Rambola learned the Shri Ram Mantra, studied the scriptures, and developed a deep devotion to Lord Rama. It was Narharidas ji who gave him the name Tulsidas, and he later became renowned as Goswami Tulsidas.

After spending nearly ten months in Ayodhya, Narharidas ji took his disciple to Varah Kshetra, where Tulsidas ji heard the sacred story of the Ramayana from his Guru for the very first time. That spiritual experience deeply influenced him, strengthened his devotion to Lord Rama, and ultimately shaped the course of his entire life.
