• As symbols of the nine girls, keep rice grains (akshat) or betel nuts at the altar.

• Light a lamp while meditating on Maa Siddhidatri and take a sacred vow.

• When they arrive, wash their feet and respectfully seat them inside the home.
• Purify their feet with a little Gangajal or clean water.
• Arrange flowers, rice grains (akshat), roli, turmeric, chunri, glass bangles, sweets, coconut, and fruits, along with freshly prepared food.
• Consider each girl as the embodiment of Maa Durga, apply tilak on their forehead, and offer flowers to them. Touch their feet and seek their blessings.
• Serve the food to the little girls first. Traditionally, halwa, puri, and black chickpeas are offered. After the meal, give them fruits and sweets.
• Once they have finished eating, present them with dakshina, gifts, fruits, sweets, chunri, or toys according to your capacity. The young boy should also be given a gift.
• Finally, take blessings from the girls and bid them farewell with respect.

The Story of Goddess Siddhidatri on Navami Tithi

According to ancient legend, there once lived a Brahmin couple who were very sorrowful because they had no children. During Navratri, they worshipped Maa Durga daily and performed Kanya Pujan. After years of devotion and faith in this practice, their wish was fulfilled, and they were blessed with a child. From that time onward, it has been believed that performing Kanya Pujan during Navratri pleases Maa Durga and fulfills all desires.

Another legend tells that the gods were troubled by the tyranny of the demon Mahishasura, Maa Durga killed him. After the war, the gods requested the Goddess to always be worshipped in the homes of human beings and to protect her devotees.
