Special Things Associated with the Life of Swami Vivekananda
- Swami Vivekananda was born in a Kayastha family in Kolkata. His childhood name was Narendra Nath Datta.
- In 1871, he went to school. At that time, he had been passing the eighth year of his life. After this, he secured the first position in the entrance examination of the Presidency College in 1879.
- Narendra Nath Datta decided to leave the family and become a monk at the age of 25. After renunciation, he was named Swami Vivekanada.
- In 1881, Swami Vivekanada and Ramakrishna Paramahamsa met each other at Dakshineswar Kali Temple in Kolkata. Here, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa imparted that service to mankind should never be considered as charity but it should be considered as the worship of God.
- During the meeting with Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda questioned him if he had seen god. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa replied that he had seen him. He could see God as clearly as he could see him. The only difference was that he could observe him more deeply.
- When Swami Vivekanada addressed Americans as brothers and sisters in the parliament of religion, people applauded continuously for 2 minutes in the institute of Chicago and it took place on September 11, 1893. This day is still remembered as a historical day.
- The Ramakrishna Mission was established in Kolkata on May 1, 1897 and Ramakrishna Math was established by Swami Vivekananda in Belur on September 9, 1898 at the banks of Ganga.
- Every year, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda is celebrated as National Youth Day on January 12 and the same started in 1985.
- Swami Vivekananda had Sugar and Asthma. He predicted that these diseases would not let him remain alive more than 40 years. His prediction came true and he breathed his last at the Ramakrishna Math on July 04, 1902. At that time, he was just 39.
- His cremation took place at the banks of a river in Belur. On the other side of the same Ganga, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, who is considered the Guru of Swami Vivekananda, was cremated.
