Vinayak Chaturthi Pujan Vidhi

  • Wake up in the morning and take a bath by keeping aside all the work. After this, wear clean clothes to venerate Lord Ganesha at home or temple.
  • The worshipper should recite Ganesh Mantra in the beginning of the worship.
  • After this, offer flowers, Dhoop, sandalwood (Chandan), sweets, fruits, leaves of Paan etc.
  • Hear the legend of Lord Ganesha by lighting Dhoop, Diya/lamp. 
  • After the worship,  perform Aarti and distribute the Prasad among others.
  • Worship Lord Ganesha again in the evening. Distribute the Prasad and eat fruits to complete the fast on the following day.

Ganesha Mahamantra

प्रातर्नमामि चतुराननवन्द्यमानमिच्छानुकूलमखिलं च वरं ददानम्।

तं तुन्दिलं द्विरसनाधिपयज्ञसूत्रं पुत्रं विलासचतुरं शिवयो: शिवाय।।

प्रातर्भजाम्यभयदं खलु भक्तशोकदावानलं गणविभुं वरकुञ्जरास्यम्।

अज्ञानकाननविनाशनहव्यवाहमुत्साहवर्धनमहं सुतमीश्वरस्य।। /

prātarnamāmi caturānanavandyamānamicchānukūlamakhilaṃ ca varaṃ dadānam।

taṃ tundilaṃ dvirasanādhipayajñasūtraṃ putraṃ vilāsacaturaṃ śivayo: śivāya।।

prātarbhajāmyabhayadaṃ khalu bhaktaśokadāvānalaṃ gaṇavibhuṃ varakuñjarāsyam।

What is Vinayaka Chaturthi Vrat?

As per Hindu Panchang, two Chaturthis fall in one month. Chaturthi falling after Amavasya during Shukla Paksha is known as Vinayaka Chaturthi while Chaturthi falling after Purnima during Krishna Paksha is known as Sankashti Chaturthi. 

Although the fast of Vinayaka Chaturthi is observed every month, the most important one falls during Bhadrapada month. Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated by the Hindus across the nation as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Vinayaka Chaturthi is also known by the name of Varada Chaturthi at certain places. 

It is believed that one who worships with good intention and pure heart and observes fast, is blessed with knowledge and patience.
