Shravan will last two months in 2023

The new year is set to bring a huge grin on the faces of Lord Shiva’s devotees as they will have plenty of time to please their Lord! The month of Shravan, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, will be observed for two months after around 19 years in 2023, and the main reason behind this is Malamas. The month of Shravan or Sawan will start on July 04, 2023 and will end on August 31, 2023.

The Meaning Of Malmas

According to the Hindu Calendar, once every three years, there is an extra month. The astrological significance behind this is that when the Sun changes its zodiac sign i.e. the Sun transits from one zodiac to another. This transit is also celebrated as Sankranti.

Hence, there are a total of 12 Sankranthi in a solar year and the month with no Sankranti is called Malmas, or Adhikmas. Since Malmas is considered to be inauspicious, none of the auspicious or new tasks or rituals should be performed in this month. This year, Malmas will start on July 18, 2023, and will end on August 16, 2023.
