Navratri Ghatasthapana Significance & Auspicious Timings

This year Shardiya (Sharad) Navratri starts on the 26th September. As we have told earlier, this auspicious celebration, which lasts for 9 days, begins with the installation of Kalash or Kalash Sthapana. According to the beliefs, it is said that in the worship of the Goddess, the Kalash is considered to be the image of Lord Vishnu and this is the reason why the Kalash is worshiped first.

It is to be noted that, before placing kalash, the place of worship is purified with Gangajal, then all the deities are invited for worship, and the lump of turmeric, betel nut, durva (Scutch grass), and mudra are placed in the Kalash and after that, it is decorated with five types of leaves.

Sand alter is made sand altar is made under the kalash and barley is sown on it, Annapurna Devi is worshiped, after which roli, rice, vermilion, garland, flowers, chunari, clothes, ornaments, suhag material is offered at the place of worship. After this, different types of bhog (cooked food), fruits, and flowers are offered to Mata every morning. It is also worth knowing that Navratri is worshiped twice a day.

Kalash Sthapana Rules

• It is considered best to complete the kalash sthapana procedure before one-third of the day.

• Abhijeet Muhurta is considered to be the most auspicious and best for setting up the Kalash.

• Talking about the constellations, then for the Ghat sthapana , Pushya Nakshatra, Uttara Phalguni Nakshatra, Uttarashada Nakshatra, Uttara Bhadrapada Nakshatra, Hasta Nakshatra, Revati Nakshatra, Rohini Nakshatra, Ashwini Nakshatra, Mool Nakshatra, Shravan Nakshatra, Dhanishta Nakshatra, and Punarvasu Nakshatra, are considered to be the best. In such a situation, do Ghatasthapana only during these Nakshatras.

Navratri First Day: Dedicated to Maa Shailputri

The first day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Shailputri along with Ghatasthapana. Maa Shailputri is known as the daughter of the mountain king Himalaya. Offering cow’s ghee and items made from cow’s ghee to the goddess is considered auspicious.
