The Significance Of Goddess Skandamata’s Form

Goddess Skandamata, revered as the mother of Lord Kartikeya, embodies an exceptionally beautiful and serene form. She is depicted holding Skanda (Kartikeya) in her lap while seated on a lotus, which is why she is also known as Padmasana Devi. Additionally, she is recognized by names such as Gauri, Maheshwari, Parvati, and Uma.

Her vehicle is a lion. It is believed that devotion to Skandamata can bless childless couples with offspring. On this day, offerings of red clothing, auspicious items, red flowers, yellow rice, and a coconut are traditionally made to the Goddess, with the hope of enhancing the chances of conceiving.

Worshiping Skandamata not only fulfills one’s desires but also paves the way to liberation (moksha) and opens up all life’s opportunities. This worship also includes reverence for Lord Kartikeya. As a deity associated with the solar system, Skandamata is known for her immense radiance.

Those who devote themselves sincerely to her worship experience significant benefits. Skandamata is depicted with a lotus flower in her right hand and her left hand in the varada mudra. Worshiping her in this form purifies the devotee’s Sahasrara (crown) chakra, leading to liberation from all supernatural bonds.

How The Goddess Came To Be Known As Skandamata

The name Skandamata, meaning “Mother of Skanda,” was given to the Goddess due to her role as the mother of Kartikeya, also known as Skanda.
