According to Vedic Astrology, the day of Basant Panchami is considered very auspicious, hence this day is also known as Abujh or Obujh Muhurat. This means that there’s no need to consult a Pandit or Astrologer in order to initiate any auspicious or important task. On this day, wearing yellow clothes is considered auspicious. The day of Basant Panchami is also considered very propitious in terms of marriage.
Why is Basant Panchami Celebrated?
According to the mythological legend, Lord Brahma created the world, which comprised of humans, animals, trees and plants but still felt that he’s lacking somewhere. This was the reason that Lord Brahma sprinkled some water from his Kamandala, from which a beautiful woman with four hands appeared.
The woman had the Veena in one hand, a Book in the other, the Garland in the third with the fourth hand in a blessed position or Var Mudra. Lord Brahma, upon seeing this, asked the Goddess to play the Veena. When she began playing the instrument, Brahma JI felt as if everything around him had come to life and become melodious. Hence, he named her the Goddess of Veena, Saraswati. Since her appearance took place on the day of Basant Panchami, she is venerated every year on this day.
