Pious Legend of Maa Chandraghanta
As per mythology, once the terror of demons began to rise, then Maa Durga incarnated herself as Maa Chandraghanta in order to destroy them. At that time, the master of demons was Mahishasura who had been in a fierce fight with deities. Mahishasura wanted to capture Heaven and throne of Devraj Indra. Being fed up with his immense terror, all the deities approached Tridev i.e. Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh to find a solution to get rid of this problem.
After hearing all the problems of deities, Tridev got furious and owing to this furiousness, an energy came out from the mouth through which a goddess (Devi) appeared. Lord Shankar gave his Trishul and Lord Vishnu gave his Chakra to the goddess. Also, all other deities handed over their weapons to the goddess. Devraj Indra also gave her a Ghanta while the Sun gave his shine (Tej) and sword and also provided her with a lion to ride.
With all the weapons, Maa Chandraghanta went on to fight Mahishasura. Seeing the face of Maa Chandraghanta, he realized that his end was near. A fierce fight started among deities and demons, Maa Chandraghanta and Mahishasura and at the end, Maa Chandraghanta protected other deities after she had killed Mahishasura.
