Mohini Ekadashi 2023: The Fast Katha
According to legend, there was a beautiful town called Bhadrawati near the river Saraswati. In this town, a rich man called Dhanpal used to live. He was a very kind and charitable person. He had five sons. His youngest son’s name was Dhrishtabuddhi. He used to waste his father’s money on wrong deeds. One day, upset with Dhrishtabuddhi’s bad habits, his father, Dhanpal, threw him out of the house. Out of sadness, Dhrishtabuddhi went to the forest and started mourning day and night. He reached Maharishi Kaundinya’s hermitage while wandering in the forest. At the time, the Maharishi had just come back from taking a bath in the river Ganges.
Dhrishtabuddhi, who was burdened with his grief, went to Kaundinya Rishi while weeping and wailing and folded his hands as he said, “Oh! “Rishi, please show me kindness by suggesting a remedy with the positive impact of which I can get rid of my sorrows.” Then Maharishi Kaundinya told him about the most fruitful Ekadashi fast, which was called Mohini Ekadashi, and also said that observing this fast destroys the sins of a person’s past many births. Dhrishtabuddhi observed the fast according to the rituals that the Maharishi had told him. Observing this fast freed him of all the sins that he had committed, and he went to Shri Vishnudham. It is believed that observing the fast of Mohini Ekadashi can help a person get atonement for their greatest misdeeds.
