Reason Behind Worshiping Grinding Stone

On the day of Mithun Sankranti, it is also customary to worship Silbatte (the grinding stone). It is believed that the way women menstruate every month serves as a representation of their development. Similarly, Bhu Devi, or Mother Earth, goes through the menstrual cycle in these three days, which signify the earth’s evolution. Bhudevi is ritually bathed on the last day of this event, which is known as Vasumati Gadhua.

Silbatte (Grinding Stone) is believed to be a manifestation of Bhu Devi, hence its use is restricted during these three days. Silbatte is bathed with milk and water on the fourth day, or rather the last day, and then worshiped with vermilion, sandalwood, and flowers. Donation of jaggery, wheat, Ghee, and grains, among other things, is also beneficial on this day.
