Meerabai’s Early Life
Several kinds of information are imparted for the birth of Meerabai, who was a great poetess and had immense devotion for Lord Krishna, at several different places. But as per Wikipedia, she was born to a Rajput family in the year of 1498 in Kudki village near Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Her father’s name was Ratna Singh who was a king of a small state.
When Meerabai was two years old, her mother passed away. After the demise of her mother, she was brought up by her grandfather named Rao Duda Singh Ji. Rao Duda Singh Ji, the founder of Jodhpur, was the descendant of Rao Jodhaji Rathore. The grandfather of Meerabai was a man of religious instinct and devotee of Lord Vishnu. After spending time with grandfather since childhood, Meerabai was highly impressed by his religious thoughts. She started taking interest in the worship of Lord Krishna from a very early age.

When Meerabai was of marriageable age, then her family members started talking about her marriage. Meerabai wanted to have Lord Krishna as her husband and that is why she did not wish to marry. Even then, going against her wishes, her marriage was settled with Maharaja Kumar Bhojraj, the king of Udaipur and elder son of Maharaja Rana Sanga, who belonged to Sisodia dynasty of Mewar. After a few years of marriage, Mirabai’s husband Bhojraj died during a war, after which, she considered Shree Krishna as her husband and remained absorbed in his veneration all the time.

Meerabai is also Known as Great Hindu Poetess
Meerabai was a great spiritual Hindu poetess who composed several poems, verses, stanzas for Lord Krishna. Meerabai composed almost over three hundred poems and in every composition, her affection for Lord Krishna is reflected immeasurably. She made many compositions in languages such as Rajasthani, Braj and Gujarati. People still recite poems and Bhajan of Meerabai, the lover of Bhakti Ras, with full respect and devotion. Narsi ji’s Myra, Meerabai’s Malar, Geet Govind Teeka, Raag Sorath’s verse, Raag Govind, Raag Vihaga, Garba are some of the known compositions written by Meerabai. Meerabai was also a Devotee of Bhagwan Ram
There have been several mentions in History that Meerabai was a devotee of Lord Ram. She made Tulsidas as her Guru and asked for the remedy to get Lord Krishna. As per some historians, Meerabai once wrote a letter to Tulsidas, in which she mentioned that her family members did not let her perform Bhakti of Lord Krishna. Then, Tulsidas advised her to perform the Bhakti of Lord Ram. Meerabai, who was drowned in love for Lord Krishna, started venerating Lord Ram and writing Bhajan. The proof of this is the famous Bhajan titled “Payoji Maine Ram Ratan Dhan Payo”.
How did Meerabai Die?
As per mythology, Meerabai spent the last days of her life in Dwarka in the remembrance of Lord Krishna. It is said that Meerabai became one with Lord Krishna by being drowned in the veneration at Dwarkadhish temple. After so many years, Meerabai is still remembered as a deep devotee of Lord Krishna and worshipped.
