Kamika Ekadashi Vrat Folklore
Lord Brahma had asked his son Rishi Narad in great detail about Kamika Ekadashi. A devotee fasting on this Ekadashi must listen to and read the story after worshiping Lord Vishnu. It is argued that only then will the fast be considered complete. According to folklore, there was a Kshatriya in a village. One day, for some reason, he got into a battle with a Brahmin, which escalated to the point where the Brahmin died.
The Kshatriya then realized his mistake and asked the pundits to perform his Kriya, but they too refused to allow him participate. They informed him that he had been accused of Brahmahatya. First, repent and be free of this sin, and then we will have dinner at your house.
On this, the Kshatriya asked the remedy for eliminating this sin. Then those Brahmins revealed the remedy: on the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha in the Shravan month, keep a fast of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu with devotion, and after worshiping the Lord, feed the Brahmins and receive blessings along with Dakshina. The Brahmins believed that this would cleanse one of the sins of Brahmahatya. The Kshatriya observed the fast in accordance with the gurus’ instructions, adhering to all laws and regulations. On the night of fasting, Lord Hari Vishnu appeared to the Kshatriya and announced that he had been freed from the sin of Brahmahatya. Hearing this, the Kshatriya was overjoyed and felt free of his sins. As a result, Kamika Ekadashi became much more important.
