As previously mentioned, this year, the Amavasya date spans two days. In simple terms, Amavasya falls on both October 31, 2024, and November 1, 2024. Those who prioritize the Udaya Tithi, which is the date at sunrise, believe that November 1, 2024, is the most suitable day for celebrating Diwali. Conversely, those who emphasize the significance of Amavasya during the Pradosh period leading up to midnight advocate for celebrating Diwali on October 31, 2024.

Rules For Diwali As Per The Astrologers!

Most scholars agree that the most suitable time to celebrate Diwali is on the day when the Amavasya of Kartik month lasts from the Pradosh period until midnight. Astrologers widely support this perspective, as the emergence of Goddess Lakshmi is believed to have occurred during the Pradosh period. Additionally, the Nishith period is considered particularly significant for all forms of worship, especially tantric rituals.

In 2024, this applies to October 31, when Amavasya will be observed throughout the night. In contrast, although Amavasya will occur at sunrise on November 1, 2024, it will end at 6:16 PM that same day. Some Panchangs indicate that the end of Amavasya happens before sunset. Typically, the Udaya Tithi is of utmost importance; however, in certain special circumstances, other auspicious timings may take precedence.

For this reason, given that Amavasya will last from Pradosh until midnight, many scholars have reached a consensus that Diwali should be celebrated on October 31, 2024.

Nevertheless, specific rituals can still be performed on November 1, 2024. Those conducting office pujas have the opportunity to perform rituals on both days. You can hold your office puja on October 31 after 3:52 PM during an auspicious time. If, for any reason, that is not feasible, you can conduct the office puja on November 1, 2024, during the day.
