Lakshmi Puja Samagri on Diwali
Maa Lakshmi likes clothes of yellow and red colours very much. In this pretext, either both the colours or one of the two coloured clothes must be kept in the worship. Also, must keep Diyas/lamps, Kalash, lotus flower, mace, Modak, quince, Sitaphal, plum, pomegranate fruit, rose, sandalwood, perfume, rice, saffron etc. in the worship of Maa Lakshmi. In addition to this, Cow’s pure Ghee and oil is used to light Diyas/lamps on this very day.

Rituals for the Day of Diwali
- First of all, place the idol/photo of Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on a wooden plank.
- Remember, Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha must face east or west direction and the idol of Maa Lakshmi should be on the right side of Lord Ganesha.
- After this, place the Kalash before Lakshmi Ji.
- Roll the coconut in a piece of red cloth and place it on the Kalash.
- Light one Diya/lamp filled with Ghee and another with oil and place both on the either side of a plank.
- Spread a piece of red cloth before a Chowki decorated with the idol of Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha and create Navagraha with rice on the same.
- Create Swastika and write ‘ॐ’ with Roli. It is considered to be highly sacred.
- Face north or east at the time of veneration. Maa Lakshmi must be worshipped in Pradosh Kaal.
- Donate lamps/Diyas after the worship.
- Must recite the Mantra – ‘ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं श्रीं महालक्ष्म्यै नम:’ / – ‘oṃ śrīṃ hrīṃ śrīṃ mahālakṣmyai nama:’ in the worship of Maa Lakshmi.

Things to do on the Festival of Diwali
- Wake up early in the morning, massage your body with oil and then, take a bath on Kartik Amavasya i.e. the day of Diwali. By doing so, it is believed that one does not face problems owing to wealth.
- Nobody should eat anything besides old people and children on the day of Diwali. Venerate Maa Lakshmi in the evening and then, have food.
- The tradition of venerating departed souls has also been defined on the day of Diwali. Offer Dhoop, Bhog etc. to them. Wear Meteorite during Pradosh Kaal and show direction to the ancestors. Meteorite means to show direction to the ancestors by lightning Diya/lamp. Owing to performing the same, they (ancestors) get peace and attain Moksha.
- Before the day of Diwali, people should celebrate the festival with songs, Bhajans during midnight at home. It is said that one who performs the same, his/her family gets free from poverty.

Legend/Katha Pertaining to Diwali
Several legends pertaining to the festival of Diwali are famous. We are going to tell you some through this blog. As per first legend, Lord Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya after the exile of fourteen years and killing Ravana. People of Ayodhya lit lamps/Diyas in order to greet him. It is believed that Diwali started to take place since then.
As per second legend pertaining to Diwali, a demon named Narkasura started creating troubles to deities and saints through his magical powers. The demon made 16,000 women captive. When Narkasura’s tyranny was enhancing, then deities and saints approached Lord Krishna and requested him to get them free from the demon. It is said that Lord Krishna killed Narkasura on Chaturdashi Tithi in Krishna Paksha during Kartik month and freed all the captive women. In this happiness, people lit lamps/diyas in their house on the second day i.e. the day of Amavasya during Kartik month.
