The Religious & Cultural Importance of Chhath Puja 2022
From a cultural and religious point of view, Chhath Puja is the festival of faith. Chhath Puja is the only festival out of all the festivals in Sanatana Dharma where the devotees worship the Sun and offer Arghya to Lord Surya. Surya Dev is the only God in Hinduism who directly pays a visit to his devotees and fulfills their wishes.
On the occasion of Chhath Puja, women observe a difficult fast for 36 hours without drinking or eating anything, wishing for a long and happy life for their children, and the well-being of their families.
According to the Dharmashastras, Surya Dev is known as the soul of the world since the light of the Sun has many qualities to destroy many illnesses and disorders. Similarly, when Surya Dev resides optimistically in someone’s Kundali, they tend to gain confidence, honor, respect, and good health in their lives.
On one hand, Surya Dev is considered as a father figure, ancestor, and a benefactor of Government Services, while Goddess Chhathi is said to be the Manas (mind-born) daughter of Lord Brahma. Additionally, in the Puranas, Goddess Chhathi is considered to be the embodiment of Goddess Katyayani, who is worshiped on the sixth day (Shashti Tithi) of the Navratris.
